Together, Different Future
As one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria, Cardinia Shire Council is a dynamic, progressive, and inclusive local council. Our success lies in working together, doing things differently and preparing for the future.
We’re looking for people who dream big and want to be part of creating meaningful change in our community.
About the Opportunity
In this rewarding role, you’ll play a key part in shaping the future of parenting support across our municipality, helping families feel connected, confident, and supported through every stage of early childhood.
We currently have two exciting opportunities available within our Universal Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Enhanced MCH teams. These roles offer a dynamic blend of responsibilities and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the community. Both positions involve close collaboration with other team members across the program, including MCH Nurses and allied health professionals.
The Universal Family Support Parenting Practitioner position will include facilitating new parenting groups and other parenting support groups. It will also include providing one-on one in-home sleep and settling support in the Sleep and Settling Outreach Program. There may be opportunities to support families enrolled in the Smalltalk Supported Playgroup Program including a home-coaching component.
The Enhanced Family Support Parenting Practitioner position will include providing in-home and community parenting information, education and support to vulnerable families within the enhanced program and may include facilitation of parenting groups.
There may be opportunities to work in either or both Universal and Enhanced MCH teams in the role.
You’ll be welcomed into a passionate and multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, inclusion, and shared purpose. Together, we create safe, empowering spaces where families can grow, connect, and flourish.
You will make an impact by
- Facilitating inclusive and engaging parenting groups tailored to diverse family needs
- Providing home-based support that builds parenting confidence and community connections
- Promoting healthy child development through play-based learning and parental guidance
- Identifying and responding to early developmental concerns with appropriate referrals
- Supporting community-building initiatives that foster belonging and participation
- Delivering high-quality, family-centred care that supports the health, development and wellbeing of children aged 0–6.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external agencies to ensure wraparound support and optimal outcomes for families.
- Leading and participating in community education initiatives that promote health, resilience and connection across the municipality.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Early Childhood, Social Work, Allied Health, Community Development or related field
- Experience working with families in outreach or early childhood settings
- Strong understanding of child development, parenting support, and play-based learning
- Ability to engage families from diverse backgrounds in a non-judgemental and inclusive way
- Strong group facilitation skills are desirable, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Knowledge of Child Safe Standards and child protection protocols
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence and valid Working with Children Check
