About the opportunity – This is a pivotal role for an experienced Development Engineer who wants to shape the future of a rapidly growing municipality. As Lead Development Engineer, you will influence how new communities are planned, designed and delivered, ensuring infrastructure outcomes are safe, sustainable and fit for purpose. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, planning and development, leading people, solving complex problems and driving high‑quality outcomes for Council, developers and the community.
You will make an impact by
- Leading the assessment and approval of development engineering applications, with a focus on access, drainage, traffic and landscape outcomes
- Providing expert advice on engineering, traffic and landscape designs for subdivisions and new developments
- Guiding and mentoring Development Engineers and technical staff to deliver consistent, high‑quality outcomes
- Coordinating service authority works and contributing to the delivery of Council’s capital works program
- Driving outcome‑focused, innovative solutions within the Developing Cardinia Program and Precinct Structure Plans
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Registered Professional Engineer under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 (mandatory)
- Strong communication skills, with proven ability to navigate planning permit requirements and engineering standards to achieve collaborative outcomes between Council and developers.
- Extensive experience assessing and approving engineering designs for new developments and subdivisions
- Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and developing a multidisciplinary team
- Strong knowledge of contemporary civil, traffic, drainage and landscape engineering practices and standards
- Sound understanding of Local Government legislation, planning schemes and development approval processes
- The ability to work autonomously, exercise sound engineering judgement and deliver practical, outcome‑led solutions
