About the Opportunity
Are you a creative communicator with a passion for sustainability and community engagement? This is your chance to shape the future of waste services in a dynamic local government setting. You’ll lead the charge in delivering innovative communications and engagement strategies for exciting projects like the new glass bin rollout, advanced waste processing, and kerbside reform—making a real impact in how our community understands and interacts with waste.
This role is ideal for someone looking to take on a short-term opportunity in communications—whether you're between roles, seeking a secondment, or simply ready to dive into something impactful and exciting.
You will make an impact by
- Crafting and delivering strategic communications and engagement plans for waste initiatives.
- Supporting the development of our next Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy
- Supporting the rollout of new waste services, including the introduction of a glass bin.
- Driving community awareness and behaviour change around waste minimisation and resource recovery.
- Collaborating with educators and technical experts to bring waste messages to life at events and activations.
- Creating compelling content for flyers, social media, and other channels to inform and inspire residents.
What you will bring
- Proven experience in communications and/or community engagement, ideally within local government.
- Strong copywriting skills and the ability to tailor messages across diverse platforms.
- Knowledge of IAP2 principles and community engagement under the Local Government Act.
- A passion for sustainability and understanding of waste services and environmental initiatives.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities with creativity and innovation.
- Experience in face-to-face engagement and event coordination.
- Understanding of behaviour change theory (desirable).
