This is an exciting, fixed term, full-time position, opportunity from August 2026 to December 2026 to play a key role in shaping a more sustainable and resilient future for Cardinia Shire. As the Water Sensitive Cities Officer, you will lead and influence initiatives that improve waterway health, strengthen integrated water management outcomes, and support the delivery of innovative Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) solutions across one of Victoria’s fastest-growing municipalities. Working across diverse landscapes, from the Yarra River headwaters to the internationally significant Westernport Bay catchment, you will make a lasting environmental impact while collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders, industry professionals and community groups.
You will make an impact by
- Providing specialist advice on Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Integrated Water Management across Council projects and developments.
- Leading the review, design, delivery and ongoing management of WSUD assets and environmental drainage initiatives.
- Supporting flood modelling, drainage investigations and the development of flood mitigation solutions in partnership with Melbourne Water and other agencies.
- Building organisational capability by delivering technical guidance, training and improved WSUD processes across Council.
- Engaging with community groups, industry partners and government authorities to achieve positive environmental and water management outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in Water Sensitive Urban Design, Integrated Water Management, stormwater management, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, standards and best-practice approaches relating to stormwater, drainage and waterway management.
- Experience managing infrastructure, environmental capital works projects, including consultant and contractor coordination.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse audiences.
- The ability to analyse complex technical information and provide practical, informed recommendations and solutions.
- Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities to achieve outcomes on time and within budget.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a passion for delivering sustainable outcomes for communities and the environment.
